Kara and Mike tied the knot last fall and it was a Michigan wedding for the books. From private vows to the coolest venue and the most fun wedding party, Kara and Mike’s special day was just incredible.
Kara and Mike got the full Ryley Kilby Photo & Film experience, including both photography and film! My associate team oversaw all photography while I managed videography. I have an amazing photo team that’s available to you while I’m leading video. This way, you get consistent creative direction from me while receiving both photo and film to document your special day.
Their Story
Kara and Mike are both physical therapists and they first met when Kara was starting PT School. Once they went on a first date, they instantly clicked just knew they were meant for each other! Together, they have a rescue pit bull and love spending time outdoors. They enjoy hiking, boating, skiing, snowboarding, and traveling.
They got engaged at Brighton Recreation Area and their wedding was in October at Gypsy Distillery in Petoskey.
Gypsy Distillery is such a cool venue and honestly doesn’t need much to make the space look stunning! Kara and Mike had simple decor — candles and bud vases made the tables warm and inviting. It was the perfect Midwest day for a fall wedding! The colors were so stunning.
Loved Ones Part of their Day
The couple did a first look before the ceremony and exchanged private vows. Kara and her Dad also did a first look and she wrote him the sweetest letter and also gave him a photo of the two of them from childhood to put inside his tie. He walked her down the aisle and Kara’s niece and nephew were the flower girl and ring bearer. Mike and Kara are Christians, so they wanted to make sure communion was a part of their wedding ceremony. Their pastor from their church downstate made the trip up to officiate!
Kara and Mike had such an upbeat, fun wedding party! They even had a few extra people they referred to as their “entourage” which entered with them at the ceremony. The bridesmaid dresses were so pretty, too, and perfectly complemented the venue and fall day.
The day ended with a dance party that was SO good. Their DJ, Parker is so talented. I even hired him for my own wedding. He’s always my top recommendation for a DJ. He’s the best and everyone agreed!
