Meet Grace and Luis: the most precious duo I just recently took couples photos in Detroit for. They’ve been together since their sophomore year of high school and, after five and a half years of dating, they’re planning to get married! They’ll be tying the knot on July 28 in Battle Creek at Of The Land. (Which, by the way, I’m so excited to be back at that venue! It’s one of my ALL TIME favorites.)

Capturing their interests

Grace and Luis grew up together throughout high school and both went to Trine University. They just graduated from college and are ready for this next season of life together! They’re both homebodies and overall just such a chill couple. They also love the outdoors, so I aimed to capture all of that for their photos! 

We went to the Detroit Institute of Arts, which I LOVE just walking around at that location! After snapping some photos there, we headed over to Belle Isle to get photos with more of an outdoorsy feel. Grace mentioned that she lives on a lake, so I wanted to make sure to include a bit of water in their photos! 

Moody blue hour engagement photos

It was so hot at this photoshoot — trust me, taking photos in 95 degree weather isn’t fun, but we pushed through and Grace and Luis did so great. They were troopers, for sure! This session was later in the evening during golden hour and then blue hour. (PS: I’m OBSESSED with blue hour at the moment.) Everyone loves golden hour and always gets hyped about it — but I feel like blue hour is overlooked! To me, blue hour is just so cool and moody and I’m obsessed with it.  

This photoshoot was their engagement session, and it was so evident the amount of peace Grace and Luis bring each other. When I asked them what their favorite things about each other were…

♡ Luis said, “My favorite thing about Grace is her sense of humor and goofy personality. She’s always making me laugh! I also love how caring she is.”

♡ Grace said, “It’s so hard to pick just one thing but my favorite characteristic of Luis is his true kindness towards others. I also love how fun he is to be around and supportive of me in all I do!”

These feelings, these emotions, were what I set out to document. And, I think we did just that! Grace is genuinely just an angel, and her smile is beyond contagious. Luis and Grace are such a precious couple together, and it was an honor to document this season of their relationship as they quickly approach their wedding day!!!
